About 4Winds Nowcasting

This company was started by two windsurfers who wanted to save time by going to the right windsurfing place in the first place and knowing the conditions before they got there. (so they could pack the right gear!) They not only wanted to know tides but the actual wind speed and direction.

This was achieved by installing anemonitors at the key windsurfing spots around Auckland and in that DIY Kiwi way, writing a computer programme to let them access this information.

A few years down the track and 4WINDS now features an 0900 service with tide information for the Waitemata Harbour and wind speed and directional information at Orewa, Takapuna, Shoal Bay (Bayswater), Pt Chevalier and Awhitu Manukau.

Currenlty run by Greg Moore, 4WINDS 0900 number runs 24 hours a day and calls cost $TBA
